How it works
- 1Colorize: upload a black and white photo here and click Colorize (6 credits).
- 2Fix faces: click "Fix faces" below to open the result in the editor and sharpen blurry faces (2 credits).
- 3Upscale: in the editor, run the image upscaler to make it larger and sharper for printing (1 credit).
Bring old family photos back to life in three AI steps: add natural color to a black and white photo, sharpen the faces, then upscale it for printing or sharing. Start with the colorizer below, then use the buttons under the result to continue in the editor. All three steps together use 9 credits. Restoring an Old Photo, Step by Step
Most old photos suffer from the same few things: they are black and white or faded, faces are soft after decades of copying and scanning, and the original print is small. Each step here deals with one of those. Colorize adds plausible, natural color to black and white photos. Fix faces sharpens eyes, skin and facial detail so people are recognisable again. Upscale enlarges the photo 2x, 3x or 4x and sharpens it, so it holds up in a frame or a photo book.
Colors added by AI are an informed guess, not a record of the original: clothes, cars or walls may come out a different shade than they really were. If you know a detail's true color, you can adjust it afterwards in the editor.
These tools do not remove scratches, tears, creases, stains or missing corners. For a badly damaged print, a hand retoucher is still the right choice; for faded, soft or small photos, these three steps go a long way.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does old photo restoration do here, exactly?
It is three AI steps you can run one after another: Colorize adds natural color to a black and white photo, Face fixer sharpens and cleans up faces, and the Image upscaler makes the photo larger and sharper. You can use any or all of them.
Can it repair scratches, tears, folds or stains?
No. None of these tools removes physical damage such as scratches, tears, creases, stains or missing pieces. They improve color, faces and sharpness. Damaged areas stay as they are, so start from the cleanest scan you have.
How many credits does a full restoration use?
Colorize uses 6 credits, Face fixer 2 and the upscaler 1, so all three steps use 9 credits. New accounts get 20 sign-up credits, enough to try the full process twice.
My old photo is already in color but faded. Can I still use this?
Yes, skip the colorize step. Upload the photo in the editor, then use Fix faces and the upscaler from the Tools button. The colorizer is made for black and white photos.
How should I scan the photo?
Scan or photograph it flat, in even light, without glare, at the highest resolution you can. A clean, sharp scan gives every step more to work with. JPG, PNG and WebP files up to 10 MB are accepted.
