Why Convert a Photo to Black and White?
Removing color puts the attention on shape, light and expression. A busy street scene becomes a study in lines and shadows; a portrait becomes about the face rather than the clothes. Black and white also ties together photos taken in different light, which is handy for a consistent social feed or a printed album where the original colors clash.
Classic is the safe choice for most photos. Use High contrast for architecture, street photography and dramatic skies, Soft for portraits and calm landscapes, and Sepia when you want the warm look of an old print. Lowering the intensity keeps a little of the original color, which works well for a faded, muted style.
Once you like the result, download it as a PNG or JPG, or open it in the editor to add text, place it in a collage or resize it for Instagram, Pinterest or a Story.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need an account to convert a photo to black and white?
No. The converter runs entirely in your browser: upload, preview and download without signing in, and it uses no credits. You only need an account if you want to save a design in the editor.
What is the difference between the four styles?
Classic turns colors into even grey tones based on how bright each color looks. High contrast deepens the blacks and brightens the whites for a bolder look. Soft lowers the contrast for gentle, airy greys. Sepia gives a warm brown, vintage-print tone.
What does the intensity slider do?
It blends the effect with your original photo. At 100% the photo is fully black and white (or sepia); lower values keep some of the original color for a muted, faded look.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion happens on your device, inside the browser tab. The photo is only uploaded if you choose Edit in Editor while signed in, which saves it to your own Uploads.
Which file format should I download?
PNG keeps every detail and any transparency, so it suits graphics and further editing. JPG makes a smaller file that is easy to share; transparent areas become white.
